* The Rev C. I. Merton, who had a bad attack of influenza in the early part of last week, and was v nable to take the service at St Matthew's Church on Sunday, is.now much better. Mr Munro Wilson, engineer for the water and drainage scheme, has been initiating the new foreman. (Mr Burt) into his duties during the week, the latter taken up this position in readiness for the laying of the water mains. Three patients at the local private hospital underwent operations the other day, Mr Mills (Kaukapakapa) for an internal trouble, Mr George Baier for acute appendicitis, and Mr Michael Carmody for abscess on the lungs. All are getting on as well as can be expected. Dr Meinhold was assisted in the operations by Dr Marchesini, of Auckland. Members of the Glee Club got a hugh surprise last night when Mr J. E. Page conductor, intimated that they would shortly have to elect a new leader, as he had received notice to transfer from Helensville. Mr Page's projected departure is greatly regretted, as he has been an euthusiastic leader in local musical affairs for some time past, in addition to the valuable service he has rendered at St Matthew's Church in music and as lay reader.
