School Committee Elections
MEETINGS OF HOUSEHOLDERS The annual meetings of houses holders for the purpose of. electing school committees for the ensuing year took place on Monday evening. HELENSVILLE. There was not a large gathering of householders at' Helensville. Mr A. Becruft was voted to the chair. The annual report read as follows : —-Ladies and gentlemen : Your com* JXjßttee Lave the honour to present the /PSg^ng report for the year ended 3HsWpirch 1913 :— •> <JTDuring the year the Committee have received from the Board monies for incidental purposes amounting to £U 13s Od. and a Special Grant of £1 4s Od for scribbling paper ; this in addition to the balance of £j 1 16s 4d brought forward from last year made a total of £54 13s 4d available for expenditure. "|The cost of cleaning the Buildings, etc, for the year has been £24 16s 9d, Fuel has cost £1 16 ed, Repairs £3 7s 2d, Books and Stationery £17 19s 6d, Fluid 14s, Cutting ti tree £2 Os Od, Bank charges 12s Od, and the Bank a/c at the end of the year was in credit £.°> 6s 1 Id. "Technical School—This building was opened by Mr Gordon Coates M. P. in April of last year, and the Committee are pleased to state that the attendance has been good since the classes were started. " Chairman—At the meeting held on August 13, 1912 Captain Hammond resigned owing to his removal to Auckland. The Committee were very sorry to lose his services, as he had always taken a deep interest in educational matters. Owing to Captain Hammond's resignation Mr A. Becroft was voted to the chart, and another member had to be elected to fill the vacancy. Mr H. Thompson being duly elected to fill the position. ■*' Secretary and Treasurer—Owing to pressure of business Mr H. White found it necessary to resign, and Mr H. Thompson has carried out the duties with every satisfaction since. "New Play-gronnd: The Committee decided to take up a Is subscription for the purpose of ploughing and fencing the grounds. We are pleased to report that the residents have subscribed weli, and the work will soon be put in hand.—Signed, A. Becroft, Chairman. On the motion/ of Messrs J. Coustable and Bradly the report and balance sheet was adopted. THE NEW COMMITTEE. There were eight nominations for the seven seats. The following were elected : —W. Bradly, J. H. Constable, H. Thompson. A. Becroft, F.R.Eames, A. M. Hammond and R. Smith. At the subsequent meeting of the newly-elected committee Mr A. Becroft was re-elected chairman and Mr F. R. Eames was elected Secretary. Matters in connection with" the children's visit to A.uckland were discussed, and it was decided to take Frida} r, May Bth, as the additional holiday granted by the Board. It was decided to huld meetings on .....the second Tuesday in the month. The full committee was appointed as Visiting Committee, the members to attend to such duty in alphabetical order. >
The Chairman mentioned that the piece of land which was now being cleared adjoining the school grounds ■would not be all repuired for school play-ground and he thought a pieco could be used as a kind of public nark. —Other members agreed with this view and considered that the Town Board should contribute to the cost of the work now being done.
