Notice in another column announcing that excursion tickets for the Pukekohe Show, will be carried on the N. Z. Eailways from Te Hana, Auckland and intermediate stations, to Pukekohe on 27th and 28th February, and by trains arriving Pukekohe not later than 3 p,m. on the Ist March, available for return up to Bth March, Mr Ih AHporfc, Secretary for Marine reports that Mr Fraser, the department's expert who has been superintending the installation of the new light at Oastlepoint, on the coast be-' tween Napier and Wellington, will go up in three or four weeks' time to erect the Chickens light, which will be a flashlight visible for about eighteen miles. Mr Fraser, while in the North will also put the acetylene light at Shelly Beach in the Kaipara river, in good working order. Nothing definite has been decided about the erection of the new light at North Gape.

Flogging -was ordered in four iu* stances by his Honour Mr Justice Edwards when passing sentence at the Supreme Court Auckland on Mondoy. During the present criminal sessions, the grand jury, in view of the large numbei of indecent assault cases included in the calendar recommended the use of the lash and the effect of sentences passed by his Honour today will thus be to carry out that recommendation. His Honour in passing sentence commented on the fact that imprisonment alone had failed to act as a deterrent, and flogging was the only remedy for the evil.

On the Ilth and 12th of March Parakai will be en fete. On.the 11th Mr C Eussell will be married to Miss A Spinley daughter of Mr G H Spin ley of Te Pua, and on the following day Mr R J Nichol will be married to Miss Gr Aitkenhead daughter of Mr Hector Aitkenhead of Parakai. Both weddings will be solemnised in the Helensville Churches.
