Tile agitation ia progressing and so is the counter-agitation. The whole question has spread over much space of reported paper. JN evertheless it resolves itself into simple elements. The one side asks for a referendum for the democratic settlement of the question. The other replies that the settlement is really sectarian— in the sense that many sects must fall outside the final acceptance.. Between the two we ask "if a question of religion can or ought to be referred to majority rule ?" There can be but one answer in a country of freemen and religious toleration. Givo us either denominationalism or secular^ is n, but not the ihst disguised as the second.
