Farming in Manawatu.
We learn that Mr H. H. Meredith, late manager of Stewart Bros, butter factory here, also well known in musical circles, and who left for Palmerston North to take up a position in a butter factory there, has given up dairying business and become a supplier, He bought a farm at Newbury, Manawatu, and is supplying a cheese factory in that district. The price given is Is 2d per lb for butter fat, and there is a possibility of a penny bonus, making it Is 3d all told. Mr Meredith is milking 21 cows singlehanded, and the returns aro just 27s 9d per day, practically £2 per cow per month, With his experience, he is systematically weighing, sampling and testing the milk two days consecutively each month from each cow, and next Spring he hopes to be able to get rid of the duffers that he is keeping instead of them keeping him. Mr Meredith'says the weather has been very cold of late at his new home, with much rain, and in consequence, the potato crops are late. It will be interesting to hear the ie* suits of Mr Merediths testing later on. We wish him success in his new business.
