Parakai Social
The Social given by the Parakai ladies in honour of the Parakai Football Club who won the Association caps this year was, considering the inclement state of the weather last Wednesday evening, wt.ll attended, and a pleasant evening was spent with dancing enlivened with several vocal items. During the evening Mr R. Nicholls, on behalf of the Parakai team, presented Mr L. McLeod, captain of the team, with a solid silver hot water kettle and stand, inscribed •'Presented by the Parakai Football Team to Logan McLeod." Mr Nicholls said the small token was partly as a wedding present and partly to show the esteem in which the recipient was held by the team of which he was captain. He (Mr Nicholls) did not understand football, but he witnessed the final match, and he thought that it was owing to tiieir training and good leadership that the Parakai boys owed their success. He had great pleasure in handing the present to Mr McLeod (applause). Mr L. McLeod was received with musical honours and cheers : he thanked them for the generous gift, which both he and Mrs McLeod would greatly prize. He hoped that Parakai would be successful in future years ; he was sure that it was not the good training that gave them victory, but the way in which they had stuck together throughout the season (applause). After the presentation a light supper was handed round and £iueh appreciated. The dance music was supplied by Miss F. Donovan, Miss M. McLeod r laying the extras. The committee, of which Miss M. Nicholls was secretary, are to be complimented on the carrying out of arraugemonts, and for which they received throo hearty choors at the close of a pleasant evening.
