TOWN BOARD.
The ordinary fortnightly meeting of the above was held in the Board Chambers on Saturday afternoon last. Present: Messrs Jas. McLeod (chairman), A. Becroft, J.A.Wilson, Jas. Hand, and Jas. Stewart. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, Correspondence; The Clerk reported that he had written to the Postmaster, notifying that Messrs Stewart and Becroft had been appointed trustees to the OenietGries Account at the Post Offi.ce. He had received a reply stating that fresh signatures had to be sent. A letter was read from the Auckland Charitable Aid Board asking that amount due by the Board be forwarded.—Matter to be attended to. Prom Mr H. M. Wilson, re pipes for waterworks, also re putting drain along railway line, stating that these matters were receiving attention. Application from Mr Becioft for building for Mr Hook, fronting Garfield Road, —Matter referred to next meeting pending further information. From Mr Lambert re being rated foi £400 instead of £200, cliaming he should only berated on lessee's value. The matter was referred to next meeting. The Chairman stated tha the did not see how he could be exempted from rates and taxes. It was decided to ask Mr Lambert to produce his lease, Accottn rs. Accounts amounting to £2 paid he* tween meetings were passed for payment, and accounts for £1 12s bdwere passed for payment. An account of 10s from Mr Y. McLeod for royalty on sand, was passed for paj rraent. Drainage Accounts.-—£B3 0s 4d paid between meeting was passed, and ac> counts for £113 8s 3d were passed for payment. Tenders. —Mr Lambert's tender of £21 for building a dray for the Board's use, was acceptpd, if he could have it completed in one month from date of acceptance uf tender. Time of Holding Meetings.—Mr Jas. Stewart stated it was most inconv venient the present -time (2,30 Saturday afternoon) for holding meetings. It greatly interfered with business, and he thought they should revert hack to nightly meetings as previously; any evening alter 0 p,m. would suit him. Mr Becroft: It would likewise in» convenience him when he was at work again. It might be best to have some oilier lime than Saturday afternoon. The Chairman. : All members had to be considered. What did tiiev think ? Mr Wilson : One advantage of the daylight meetings was that they could go and viow any necessary work after the meeting The Chairman : Monday evening would suit me. Mr Hand : Saturday suits me best, Mr Stewart moved, '% That the meetings ni future be hold on the Ist and :>rd Monday evenings in each month." Mr Beoroft seconded. Carried. Mr Bocroft drew attention to the metal put on the Pai-Uhurst Road, which left it in a very rough, state, and thought it shcuid be blinded.

The Oh.irmau stated the matter should ho lonked into by the Eoads Committee.
Mr Wilson reported tint tho Committee had inspected the Public Pound and found it was in a bad state as stated by tho poundkeeper at last meeting. It had been found that about two thirds of the. pound was on priva :.'/■• property b< longiny to Afr V. McLeod, who wished it removed Members wore of opinion that the Pound required moving irom the present placo altogether, as it practically blocked the street up, which was now required for public use.
It was decided that the Board make
application to the H, A. and P. Association for the lease of a section, 50 ft frontage "by 100 ft deep, on their property, on the north side of the Auckland Farmers' Union sale yards, for the purpose of erecting a public pound. Mr Hand reported that the surface* men required grates to covei 1 entrance to drains in several parts of the town. The Clerk was instructed to procure the grates required. ■ ■ Town Lighting. — The Chairman stated that it was time something was done in the matter of street lighting. There were several of the old lampposts which could be used. He thought the goose-neck posts would be most serviceable in some parts. Messrs Becroft and Wilson were of opinion that the posts would be too frail. It was ultimately decided that one goose-neck lamp post be tried, and it was left to the Roads Committee to decide where it should be 6i*ected, DOMAIN BOARD. The minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. The following letter was read from the Minister for Tourist and Health Resorts in reply to the Board's request for a further grant:— l< In answer to your letter of the 28th ultimo, I have to infGrm you that Cabinet has approved of provision being made on the Public Works Estimates for the current year for an additional £400 to be available for the. further development of the Helensville Hot Springs Domain, and I shall be glad if your Board will submit for my approval its proposals for the expenditure of the additional amount. Yours faithfully, R. Heaton Rhodes, Minister | for Tourist and Health Resorts." The Chairman stated that when the Estimates came down the Board should write the Minister of Tourist Affairs, i also Mr J. G. Coates, and Members who assisted him in procuring the £400 so quickly, thanking them. Mr Wilson asked if the money was not in consideration of handing over the Springs.
The Chairman : It was for completing the work of improvement in hand, so as to allow the grounds to be used to advantage.
Plans and specifications of the pro* posed pavilion, and tanks for water supply for lawns, drawn up by Mr G. Jackson, were laid on the table. Mr Jackson also wrote re sending invitations to those bowlers attending the opening. Mr Wilson asked if Mr Jackson had done all the supervising of the laying out of the greens without cost.
The Chairman thought it was for love of the game,
Mr Becroft thought that when the account for the plans of pavilion and water tank came to hand, Mr Jackson should bo thanked for the interest lie had taken and for what he had done gratuously.
It was decided that the plans, Qtc, be forwarded without delay to the Minister.
The Chairman stated that tho pavilion, water tank, and necessary equipment would cost about £u7<>.
Members were of opinion that the returns would greatly incrca.so when the lawns were in working order.
A letter was road from Mr Harris (gardener) ro. purchasing outfits for bowling, tennis and cioquet, and suggesting that all the gear outlined by Mr Jackson be procured.
It was agreed that Mr Jackson bo asked to select 12 sots of bowls and other necessaries, on the .board's behalf.
An application was received from tho Bowling Club re lease of ground from tho Board. It was ultimately decided, after discussion, tint tlio Club have use of ground for tho first year for £20 ; the season to atari from Oct. Ist, 11)12.
The opening of bowling greens and tennis courts was discussed, and it was decided that if the BoAvling Club would carry the matter out, tho Board would tnako a donatu.ii towards tho function.
The Chairman thought the erection of tho tank for water supply to lawns sh:mld be, proceeded with at once. Members agree 1 that a tank of 5000 gallons should be erected without delaj', as without water the greens would scon go back.
