WOOD HILL,
(Own :Correspondent.)
. Mr Hoist's sale on Thursday, 17th inst. was largely attended by buyers from the surrounding districts and good prices were realised. Mr Reridell, the purchaser of the greater part of Mr Hoist's property at Woodhill, is to be congratulated on having acquired a fine farm and one of the best situated homesteads in the Kaipara; and as Mr Hoist has reserved a nice farm for himself, Woodhill is making a distinct gain.
On Thursday evening the Woodhill Tennis Club celebrated the opening of the 1912-13 season with a social in the Hall, and though the weather was not favourable, there was a large attendance which promises well for the coming season. There were a number of visitors from Helensville, Parkhurst, Rewiti, Waimauku. and Kumeu. Mr R. Hoe presided and welcomed those who had come from a distance on such a wet evening, thanking them for their attendance. He mentioned that the formation of the new courts was well forward and that the Club hoped to^ have them in good order early in'the season ; he believed all who attended the matches would enjoy themselves whether winners or losers, for after all the game was the object, and often the losers were the better for their defeat. During the evening the following programme was submitted : Pianoforte Solo, Miss K. Lyons; Reading, Master P. McDonald : Recitation, Mr Hoe : Songs, Miss A. Pengolly, Messrs Cucksey, Lambert, and J. Lyons, accompanied by Miss K. Lyons and Mr Radford, interspersed with phonograph selections. Then followed the inevitable dance, with light refreshments, music being supplied by Miss K. Lyons and Messrs Radford, Osbaldiston, and Osborne.
