BOWLING CLUB.
The meeting called for Saturday evening last to form a Bowling Club in connection with the Hot Springs green was, considering the importance of the event of the opening of these greens and tennis and croquet lawns, very poorly attended. There were present: Messrs Jas, McLeod, R, Nicholls, G. Jackson, J. Simcock, J, C. Rimmer, W. Ellott, G. Wharton, E, McLeod, Jas. Hand, J. Wilson, A. Becroft, H. Stringer, Jas. Stewart, and W. B. Card.
Mr Jas. McLeod (chairman of the Town Board) explained the business of the meeting, and pointed out that Mr Gerald Jackson, Engineer to the Waitemata County Council, and an enthusiastic bowler, one of Rocky Nook's Club top notches was present for the purpose of giving them information as to the best course to take in forming the proposed club. Mr McLeod w^as elected chairman of the meeting; Mr Stringer acting as secretary pro tern.
It was resolved that a Club be formed, to be callrd " The Helensville Bowling Club."
Mr Jackson stated that he would advise the Club to register under the Friendly Societies, and affiliate with the Bowling Association and the Provincial Association. It would allow them to send teams to take part in tournaments, and would allow other clubs affiliated to visit their green, which would assist them in getting a good start. The opening day was a very important matter aud should be as early as possible, before the championship tournaments in town were commenced, to allow Mr Carlo \v, who had signified his willingness to bring a large number of players to take part, a chance of getting them, as if left too late very few would be able to come, being engaged in Club tournaments. Mr Jackson produced a copy of rules used by Bowling Clubs which were read by the Secretary. He advised the new Club to adopt them and leave them to the committee to make alteration necessary for their ground, and refer them to a later general meeting. Mr McLeod thought a number of the rules would be useless to the Club. Mr Becroft thought it would bo wise to procure a copy of rules from Rotorua and To Aroha Clubs to give an idea how clubs were conducted when the ground was the property of a Domain Board. It was decided to elect office-bearers as set down m the rules of Rocky Nook Club, and tho following wero elected for the first year :—Patron, Mr J. G. Coates, M!p ; President, Mr Jas.
