KAIWAKA.
\ (Own Correspondent.) After having a fairly good winter, and the start of tho mild and early \ Spring, the weather seems to have }• gone to pieces, and the last week or .-.-■-so has been simply awful. The roads gf with the exception of the Main North |r Hoad to Maungaturoto, have not been so bad this winter, but the road for about a mile, half-way to Maungaturoto defies description, and no one that has not had the misfortune to travel on it can form even a mild opinion of its awfulness. Surely those responsible do not travel in that direction. There has been no advance in construction works on Railway so far, but as construction is well ahead of Bailhead, perhaps it may be policy not to get too fai away from the Otamatea Bridge, which is still very far from complete, and tho Maungaturoto tunnell will be finished in about a month, all the culverts are in. hanks and cuttings well m hand, so'at present there appears a slackness' the cause of wlfch is very apparent when the peculiar nature _of last section is taken into consideration —a lot of light work, and some big undertakings. The line to Kaiwaka station is standing fairly well.
