GIRL PEACE SCOUTS.
TO XIIE EUITOIt. Sir : —This movement is not only very little understood bnt in many quarters very largely misunderstood. It is generally assumed to be a movement for, and suited to the larnkan type of girls, but this is not so ; anyone who glances through the text book " Peace Scouting for girls ". cannot help being pleased with its tone and scope, inspired by its grand aims, and iilled with hope for the future possibilities of the movement. Let me point out the need for this or some similar movement, this is an age of education, and I believe we have tho highest conception of what education is for, namely to prepare us for complete living. Now our girls go to school, pass through the various standards, leave and take up some secular work, they spend their spare time in the picture show, the dance, or reading novels, but while these may be legitimate pleasures, they certainly do not promote complete Jiving. While I write these words I nm fully conscious that there are oxueptions, but for every one well regulated and nobly lived [ life there are 50 otherwise. The 'mnj- i ority of our girls aro just drifting through ljfo, and wo need something that shall afford an opportunity for tho spending of their time happily, and which at the same time 'will prepare them for a life of useful service far their fellow being and their God ; something that shall Jead them into the path of glory trod by such noble women as Florence Nightingale and Gthcis along with the mothers of those men who have helped to build up our Empire. I am convinced that the G. P. K. uiovcincnt. properly conduct' ed along the lines set forth in the above mentioned book will do much in
■trengthening1 moulding and directing the aspirations of those upon whom the futuro of our Empire depends, for " no nation rises higher than its women ", and I should like to see the local ladies interest themselves in the movement for the sake of the girls in our district, We have the promise of the co-operation of the Auckland Ladies Council, who are doing a splendid work, and it is hoped that all ladies interested will attend a meeting to be called at the earliest opportunity for the purpose of outlining the aims and methods of the organisation. This is a matter where denominational differences may disappear, and in which we may stand shoulder to shouldder for the well being of Our county, co that all ladies will be welcome. 1 am, etc., Horace W. Milneh.
