Fare Welling Captain and Mrs Hammond.
PRESENTATION BY TOWNS. PEOPLE
On Thursday evening last about 50 ladies and gentlemen assembled in the Supper Room of the Foresters' Hall to witness the presentation and farewelling of Captain Hammond and Mrs Hammond who are leaving the District. The Chairman of the Town Board (Mr James Stewart) in making the presentation on behalf of the sub.-i scribers, sail that Captain Hammond had been resident in Helensville sovpii years. He had risen from the position of one of the masters of the steamers to become Manager of the Company, and was now going higher to take up an important position in the Northern Steamship Coy. He felt sure that all present had every good wish for his success, and hoped he would not stop climbing the ladder. Mr Stewart then presented Mrs Hammond with a set of solid silver Entree Dishes, and a travelling rug to Captain Hammond. Captain Hammond in responding for Mrs Hammond and himself said that he thanked all present for their kindness, and regretted very much that they were leaving the District, Mrs Hammond and himself had made many friends during their residence here, and although leaving, he would always look forward with pleasure to visiting Holensville in the future. Captain Hammond whilst again thanking all for their kindness, said that he would always be pleased to see any of his Helensville friends at their new home in Epsom.
The Chairman then asked all pre~ sent to toast the health of Captain and Mrs Hammond wishing them every success and happiness in their mew venture. This was heartily responded to with the singing of " They are jolly good fellows," winding up with Three hearty cheers. Captain Hammond again suitably responding. Mr Jas McLeod speaking on behalf of the Helensville Agricultural and Pastoral Association, said that he regretted very much that they would lose Captam Hammond's services as President. He had always found him a good man to work with, and one that took a keen and active interest in any society he was connected with. Mr Alfred Becroft speaking as a member of the School committee regreted that they were losing the services of such an able Chairman,
Mr A. J. Hill. Headmaster of the school also spoko iv feeling terms of their departure from Heiensville, remarking that he had alwags found Captain Hammond to take a great interest in the school woik, also to assist the teachers whenever it was necessary.
Mr Stewart speaking again said that great credit was due to Captain Hammond, for it was really due to his efforts as Chairman of the School Committee that the Technical School was established in Helensville.
A veiy pleasant evening was brought to a close by all joining hands and singing '' Auld Lang Syne '' and "Three hearty Cheers " for Captain and Mrs Hammond. Great credit is due to the ladies, and others who assisted in providing the refreshments.
KAIPAEA S.S. COY. EMPLOYEES On Saturday afternoon last the employees of the Kaipara Steamship Company met in the saloon of the S.s. Aotea for the purpose of witnessing a piesentation to Capt, Hammond, the late Manager. Mr White, the Acoountant of the Company, m making the piesentation on behalf of the employees, said that Capt. Hammond had been Manager for seven years, during which time he had always commanded respect from all those who were under him, and all present regretted very much that he was leaving the Company. Mr White also said that he felt quite sure that in the new position Capt. Hammond was about to fill, that his success was assured. In presenting Capt. Hammond with a gokl Albert with gold Compass Pendant, and Mrs Hammond with an E.P. Hot-water Jug, the office staff, officers, and men of the Company wished them both happiness and success for the future.
Captain Hammond, in leply, said that the gathering came to him as a surprise. He thanked them all for their great kin hioss to Mrs Hammond and himself. He valued tho presents more than others be had received, see ing they had come from the employees of the Company, He was glad to say that he did not wish to have better men than he had had during his term of office, they had all worked well with good results.
In conclusion, Capt. Menzies, of the S.s. Aotea, called upon the men to give three cheers for Capt. and Mrs Hammond, and these were given as only sailors know how.
MASONIC! On Wednesday evening last the brethren of the Duke of Albany Lodge 2073 E. C, Helensviile bade farewell to Bro E. 0. Hammond, who is ]Raving Helensviile to take up tUo position of Assistant Manager to the N, S. S. Coy at Aiiekland. The function took the form of an oyster supper, and there was a large attendance of memberand visitors. Geneial regret was expressed by the brethren at the dcs parture of Bro. Hammond, and his health and future prosperity were heartily toasted. Bro Hammonn in replying, thanked the Brethren for thoii? good wishes, and intimated that he hoped to revisit Helensville once a month at least, on the " Wednesday on or before the fail moon ",
