Meeting of Mairetahi Rate payers.
A meeting of the above was held in the Parakai Hall on Wednesday evening last. Mr K. Kicholls occupied the chair, and there were about 15 present. Mr I. McLeod addressed the meeting, giving an account of his trip to Wellington in. connection with the Central Station. Ho stated that the General Manager of Railways said the proposed site was on a heavy grade, being I iv 50, but he had since had a letter from Mr Myers (then Minister of Railways) stating that the grade was lin 140. Mr McLeod said he was informod that the proposal would be considered favourably, but he had not heard anything further.
Messrs T. F. Evans and R. Ferrall, Senr., were elected members to repre* sent Parkhurst, and C. 11. Spinley for Te Pua, on the committee to further the Central Station Proposal.
In discussing the proposal to form a Ratepayers' Association in the Eiding, Mr Nicholls read a paper putting forth "benefits of such an Association.
Mr I, McLeod (ex-member of tlie Waitemata County Council) spoke at some length and stated that if such an Association, or an advising Board, had been formed years ago, it would have been of great assistance to the sitting member.
Mr Ja.s. McLeod, (present member of the Waitemata County Council), gave accounts of how the proposed loan was to be spent, also what part had been spent and where.
It was decided to form a Ratepayers' Association for the Riding: Mr I. McLeod was appointed President, and Mr R. Ferrall, Senr,, vice-president. The Committee to consist of Messrs C. 11. Spinley, R. Ferrall, Junr., J. Archibald, T. F. Evans, R. Nicholls, R. J. Nicholls, with power to add to their number.
