CORRESPONDENCE.

HELENSVILLE TOWN BOARD

ELECTION.

TO THEEDITOB.

Sir, —Said a prospective candidate to an elector yesterday " The Helensville Town Board have an overdraft of about £400 and the rates to be collected next year have been all spent and there will be no funds available for the new Board when elected."

These rumours I understand are being circulated persistently with the intention of injuring my candidature for next election. I intend at a later date prior to the election to deal with the affairs of the Board, Hot Springs, Drainage Works and Cemetery, and in the meanwhile I wish to state that the statements made are without foundation.

I wish to show in contradiction to these statements, the position to.day. The Board received authority from the Government to do certain work in the Helensville District and there is due to the Board in connection with this and other sources £350. There is payable to the Board during the next six months for Rates £450 or approximately the Board will collect between this and February £800 against which the overdraft in the Bank stands to-day at £300. To put it shortly when the money is forthcoming from the Government the overdraft will be wiped out. All the roads and footpaths are in a hotter state of repair than previously. Th put the matter clearly to each individual Ratepayer would he consider himself in a bad condition if, on the one hand he had money coming in during the next six months amount, ing to £800 and on the other hand a debt to extinguish amounting to £300 ? Yours faithfully, JAMES STEWART.
