MASONIC BALL.
A SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION
The 28th Anniversary Ball of the Duke of Albany Lodge, No. 2073, E.C., was held in the Foresters' Hall last Friday evening when there were 53 couples present. The function this year was a purely Masonic affair, owing to the increased membership of the Lodge, and the accommodation of the hall being inadequate to cope with the large number that would attend this popular annual if made an open invitation one as has been done in the past, and it proved that those attending spent a more comfortable and enjoyable time than would have been the case if overcowded. The hall was prettily decorated with nikau palms and wreaths of lilies, with lycapodium festoons caught up to the centre of the building, the windows being draped with curtains daintly caught with bunches of camelias, the red dado relieved witli mirrors making a back-ground which showed up to advantage the dresses worn by the ladies, while the stage allotted with comfortable easy chairs for non-dancers was nicely arranged with wattles and arum lilies.
The programme, opened with a Masonic march by the brethren, when the leader Wor. Bro. W. W. L. Bradly, W.M., welcomed the guests and wished them all a pleasant evening. The Grand March to the music of " Calvacade," then followed, the Masonic regalia with the fashionable dresses of the ladies presenting a picture of splendour, and to " Fiancailles " waltz the ball was in full swing, and did not conclude till early morn, the music suplied by Meredith's orchestra, contributing largely to the enjoyment of the dancers. Bros. W. T. Sandin, A. M. Hammond, F. E. LeGrice, and C. E. Wilson, were the masters of ceremonies, and diligently discharged their duties, while Bro. J. C. Rimmer ably discharged the secretarial work. The caterers for the supper, A. Becroft & Co., excelled beyond description, every course from the duck, fowl, turkey to the end of the menu being excellent, while the laying out of the tables and, the serving were commendable. The claret enp supplied by the Brethren was much appreciated by the ladies between the dances.
Amongst the visiting Brethren were Rt Wor. Bro. W. W. Daw, District Grand Secretary: Wor. Bro C. H. Jenkins, District Grand Treasurer; Wor. Bro. T. Gresham, Pres.
