St. Matthew's Church Social
An enjoyable conversazione in aid of the funds of St. Matthews* • Church Was held in the Foresters' Hall on Friday evening last, and in spite of the cold and inclement weather prevailing, a good number attended. A short musical programme was rendered followed by light refreshments and dancing. Items on the first part of the entertainment were given by Miss F. Donovan, Miss J. Little, Miss Bailey, Rev. E- E S. Forrester, Mr C. S. White, and Mr Lowe, and were much appreciated, as was evidenced by the .numbers of encores. Two incidents marred the success of the evening. A basket of cakes was left m the small anteroom after supper, and two marauding young men got into the room, and cleared out with the contents of the basket. Also in the gentlemens' dressing-room several hard hats were crushed in, and the peg oiy-S which one hat was hanging wa&A driven right through the hat wß^ is a great pity that things of thi^ • sort can be done in our usually orderly town, and we hope the offenders will be brought to book.' We understand there is a clue to their identity, and we trust the • " police will be requested to inves- f; *' tigate the matter. Sl
