Work of Parliament.
PREPARING THE ESTI-
MATES
Arrears of departmental work have been made up by the new Ministers, and they are now engaged in preparing the estimates, which must be ready for presentation with the Financial Statement. This important document will not be placed before the House until the week following the resumption of the session, for the Prime Minister has already outlined a programme to keep Parliament busy for the first week at least. The House met on Wednesday, when the Imprest Supply Bill was introduced. This gave wide opportunities for discussion. Questions were answered and notice given of the introduction of several Government policy measures. Thursday will be devoted to private members' business if members are prepared with the bills of which they have given notice, and on Friday the Government could get on with some of its own Bills if there is any time available after such formal business as the setting up of sessional committees and so on. Mr Massey could not say when the Financial Statement's policy would be brought down, but it will probably be early' in the week after Parliament resumes.
