ADD2ES3-IN-REPLY DEBATE

Tn the Legislative Council on Wed~ nesday Sir William Steward moved the Address-ill-Reply to thy Governor's Speech. He dealt with the various proposals submitted in tho Speech, and said the settlement of land was the first of all questions. Hon. T. Y. Duncan seconded, He agreed that the land'question was the most important, aud urged that the Government should do all possible to help fruit farming. There was much land in New Zealand suitable for fruit farming. Hon. J, Kigg considered that as a declaration of policy the Governor's Speech was a very feeble effort. He said imprisonment for striking should be abolished, and when a union -went to. tho Arbitration Court it should be made to givo a guarantee.
