Accident to Mr Alfred Becrott.
The deepest regret was felt by the whole community when it was learnt that Mr Alfred Becroft who had been doing his duty, as he had done for a number of years, as a member of the Town Board, during the Premier's visit last Friday, had met with a serious accident when leaving the Springs grounds for Heleusville, after the proceedings had terminated.
It appears that Mr Becroft, with others, wished to get back to town, and seeing the motor lorry was rather full started to walk but was overtaken by the lorry and invited by some of the passengers to get aboard. Mr Becroft, apparently not thinking of the danger, attempted to mount at the side of the lorry by the step hanging there, but, sorry to relate, the step was not secure, and as he put his foot on it, the step unhinged and he fell to the ground underneath the wheel which passed over his right leg. A number of people rushed to his assistance and fortunately Dr Meinhold was one of them, and on inspection proved his leg badly broken. Messrs McLeod, Hammond, and Hoe, procured a stretcher on which the sufferer was made as comfortable as willing hands could do, and he was conveyed to the hospital in Mr Goad's trarT**, which was soon at their service. Arriving at the hospital Mr Becroft was attended by Dr. Meinhold, under whose care he has done as well as can be expected under the circumstances. This morning we are informed that he is in good spirits and getting on nicely. We hope to soon h^re-*-Mr Becroft back amongst us M/Lle and hearty. V
Mr Becroft wishes us to convey his thanks to his many/friends in giving assistance, and /also to those enquiring after his present state of health caused through the accident on Friday. He wishes to state that owing to medical treatment by Dr Meinhold and the nursing staff of the hospital, he is in good health and appears to be in a fair way for recovery.
