ASSESSMENT COURT

MAIRETAHI BIDING.

The Oourt of Assessment was held in the Court House Helensville on Wednesday last before Mr. Frazer S. M. Messrs Gerald Peacock and Light were the'assessors, and Mr. Morgan (District Valuer) conducted the cases on behalf of the Department. Altogether there were about 21 properties objected to, representing1 12 owners. The following objections were dealt with :—

Mr. Jaß McLeod, sec 8 Kaipara, 208 acre*; capital value £1900. Unimproved value £1550, improved value £350. The objectonr stated the property cost him £2.400 three years ago, since then he had added £400 worth of improvements, and that the present value of the improvements was £500. He thought the unimproved value too high. As by objoctors now evidence the unimproved value was higher than assessed, no reduction was made, and the valuation was sustained. Mrs Sarah J McLeod, lot 3a Kaipara, 150 acres, capital value £2420, unimproved £1170, improved £1250; also Jas McLeod, lot 3 Kaipaia, 150 acres, capital value £1225, unimproved £475. There two objections were taken together. The objection was to the unimproved value, but after hearing evidence of objection and District Valuer, the valuation was sustained. Mrs Sarah J. AtcLeod, Shelly Beach Estate, 2205 acres, capital value £1175. Objected to on account of hiving been purchased for less from native ownei. After an explanation from the District Valuer the valuation was sustained. W. Shine, lot 48 48a, Mairetahi, 39 acres £125. No appearance of objector, valuation sustained. E, 0. McLeod, part Te Pua, 58 acres, £1620. No appearance, valuation sustained. At this stage the Magistrate was com- j pelied to lsave by the train, and the Court was adjourned for a mouth A number of objections were with drawn alter; consultation with the A aluer, and the reminder were satisfactorily adjusted, so that no further Couit will be required.
