EARTHQUAKE
Tho sharp earthquake, proceeded by a long rumble, which was felt in the district on Sunday evening last about 6.5 o'clock, was tho first felt in these parts for the past 21 years, and was quite a new experience to a large majority of the residents who have not visited parts where shakes are more frequent. In a number of cases the practical joker was blamed for shaking the table, etc., while in one household the whole family were hastily hurried together to feel the earthquake, but when they got into the room to listen it was gone. Tho shock wos felt all over the North Island at a few minutes after six. Its duration was about 10 seconds. As far as we can learn there lias been no damage done to property in this district as the result of tho" shake.
