PROPOSED IMPROVEMENT IN HELENSVILLE RAILWAY MATTERS.
After continual agitation we are pleased to find that the Hon. MrMyers, Minister of Railways, has, at an interview in Auckland v stated that the contemplated alterations at Newmarket would obviate the delaying of the Helensville trains by shunting operations, which had now to be carried out at Newmarket.
" Arrangements have been made for a fast passenger train service between Auckland and Helensville, as soon aa the necessary siding accommodation is provided at Waikumete, This service provides for a train leaving Auckland at 8.20 a.m. daily, and arriving .at Helensville at 10.10 a.m.; the returning train will leave Helensville at three p.m., and reach Auckland at 5.44 p.m. By moans oi this train the journey to Helensville will be reduced by one hour, and the return journey to Auckland by 50 minutes. The schedule of the ordinary 3.30 pin train from Helensville to Auckland is to be altered. The train will leave Helensville at 4.1,5 p.m. and will reach Auckland at 7.10 p.m. ;- " The Minister has consented to re* * cexvea deputation from the North Auckland Suburban Railway League upon his return to Auckland in about a weeks time. The deputation' will make representations with regard to "■ the need for an improved railway service to Henderson, and the existence oi anomalies in regard to the fares -' charged on the Helensviile line."
So far as the change goes it suits passengers from Auckland to Helens* vilie, but to suit visitors from Helensvjile to Auckland it would require another fast train leaving' Helensville al' **?* ,'3 a}'rivinS in Auckland about 9.20, leaving Auckland on the return at 5.40, and to arrive in Helensvili about 7.30. This would allow visitors to the" city more time for business purposes. We suggest these trains as a large number of residents •mine district are not satisfied with the one fast return suggested by the Minister of Railways, it m no J improving the service from this end as far as visitors to the city are concerned Welxope that a deputaSn will wait on Hon. Mr Myers on his return and point out the necessity for putting on another fust train similar o that, suggested so as to satisfy travellers from both ends. BawsiJ
