The old timber areas, which years ago fell into the hands of speculators, and which carried only a steer to every 35 or 50 acres, are now carrying a much larger number. Messrs Grierson and Coleman, who recently bought 4000 acres of the Mangaru block, have done a lot of fencing, and 400 rnuie acres are down for burning. 1200 sheep and 400 head of cattle were pastured last year.
