PRESENTATION.

A very enjoyable evening was spent in the Forester's Hall supper rooms last Thursday evening, when about _ 60 persons assembled to wish- Mr. P." J. Langley, late proprietor of the Helensville Hotel, who is leaving the district, prosperity in his future home. The committee appointed, Messrs Rea, Donovan, and Bennett, had made excellent arrangements for a social evening, . and at 8 o'clock progressive euchre for • trophies was the order, 'Messrs Tilby and Cibbutt being the winners. After light refreshments Mr Jas. Stewart, (Chairman of the Town.Board), on behalf of these pre^ sent, in presenting Mr. Langley with a handsomer''cabinet of liquor decanters, Raid, ho was quite sure all those present were there to show friendship and esteem for their guest; Mr Langley had not been in the town a ! very long time, but the gathering •showed that he had made a long list of staunch friends duiing that time; be had much pleasure in handing him the handsome token, earring with it the well-wishes of all assembled. Applause. Mr D. Donovan, was quite sure that Mr Langley was a white man, and had the esteem of the people, and was sorry he had-jto give up business on account of ill health. Mr Rea, endorsed the remarks of the previous speakers, and pointed out that a publican's life was not a pleasant one, but Mr Langley had filled the bill, as was shown by those pre sent and by a large number who had sent apoligies. Mr G-. Bennett spoke as to the manner in which Mr Langley had conducted his business In replying, Mr Langley said the presentation was a surprise to hinv He wa« glad to know that he had made such a number of friends during the short time lie had been in business in Helensville, and lie was very, sorry to have to leave the town ; but health came before wealth, and owing to bad liealth he had to give up business for a time. He heartily thanked them ail for the handsome present, which would keep his memory fresh, and for there good wishes. Cheers were then given for the guest, whose health was toasted with musical honors, as also was that of Mr. Stewart, During the evening itenrs were given by Messrs Rea, Oibbutt, Graham and others, a pleasant function closing with Ould , Lang Syne.
