NORTH AUCKLAND RAILWAY SPORTS.

TJie above Sports were held on J?riday, March 15, in the Factory Paddock at Maungaturoto.

The weather was very unfavourable and it was past the hour of startingbefore the heavy rain gave way, and the sports were held under rather unfavourable conditions, the ground being very wet and heavy. Tho Warkworth Band arrived at "about J2 o'clock and by the middle of the afternoon a fair crowd had asaembjed, but should say nut half the number that would have been present if the day had been like the succeeding one. However, o record number of entries had been leceived, and a line day's sport was held, every event being strenuously contested, especially St Pat's: the Chopping Contest j Railway Worker's Handicap ; and thft Wrestling, in which the finals were a half>caste and a Maori, the former finally wiqnin°-, A really good concert wa.s held. Fn the evening, Mr Oaatea, M.P- , presid ing, supported by Mr A. Boss, Engineer in charge of tha Public Works Department.'

The Sports Club arc to !>e congratulated on the fjnaupiaj si{coe3.s q| the venture, or rather, the liberality of the workers in subscribing to the funds, for in the face of unpropitious weather, a heavy prize list, and casting over £20. th.c Oo.mmHiee will haye a considerable surplus to carry forward.
