WAITEMATA COUNTY COUNCIL
The usual monthly meeting of the above Council was held in the Council Chambers, Swanson Street, Auckland, on Friday last, there being present Councillors Cockrane (chairman), O'Neill, McOathy, H. H. Adams, A. M. Lang, H. Day, *F. Dye. V. KerrTayloi, J. McLeod, J. Greenwood, F, Poynton, Mr Jackson (County Engineer), and Mr Cawk^vell (County Clerk). The minutes of the previous meeting were duly r^ad and confirmed. •■'.■■■• TENDERS, ■ • ■; For the section of drains on the South Head Foad only one tender was: received, being that of F. Paterson, at £3 10s per chain. This, being considered too high was declined, APPLICATIONS, Nine applications were received for the position oi assistant engineer, and were referred to the committeo for selection. CORONATION SUBSIDY. Application was made for payment of the Coronation subsidy for Waimauku, the matter being left in the hands of the County Engineer for attention. COIIKESPONDENCE, It was resolved that action be taken against Mr E. E, Frost to recover the cost of drainage sustained to the Waimauku roads by heavy traffic. Mr C. Tarrant wrote regarding the proposal to take the road from Woodhill to Helensville on the east side of the river and stated that the majority of the landholder were opposed to the scheme. It was decided that the matter be not proceeded with. The Minister of Public Works wrote stating that he would attend to the matter of setting up the commission to appartion the cost of the reconstruction of the Swing Bridge between the County and the Helensvil'e Town Board. / It was resolved that tenders be called for the construction of a bridge to the Bennett's property at Swanson. A communication was received from the secretary of thw Wellington Post Office relative to the Council's complaint anent the excessive charge made to people using the telephone bureaux for length of time occupied. The letter asked that specific information be collected for the purpose of investigation. The Council decided to collect the information accordingly. This concluded the principle business.
