Town Board.

The usual monthly meeting of the above Board waS held on Monday evening last. Present: Messrs Jas. Stewart (chairman), J. McLeod, J. A. Wilson and A. Becroft. The minutes of previous meoting were read ancr confirmed. RESIGNATION. The Chaircian read resignation received from Mr H. White, Clerk. He stated he had had a conversation with Mr White who had stated, that as the Boards' business was increasing and he found he conld not do justice to the Boaid and to the\K S.S. Co., which -was his first duty. He was sorry Mr White found it necessary to resign as he was so conversant -with the Board's work. Mr McLeod moved, Mr Wilson seconded, That Mr White's resignation be accepted with regret. 1 Carried. All members expressed regret that Mr White found it necessary to resign the position as.Cleik.j ' Mr White thanked! members for remarks, and explained his position. He asked that the Board grant him' leave of absence from 11th to 24th March. It wa3 resolved that leave of absence be granted, and Mr. (D. White was appointed to act during the Clerks vacation. : '••■■■- The Chairman proposed, Mr | Wilson seconded, That applications for the position of Town Clerk be cabled, at a . salary of £40 (£3O for Town Board and £10 for DumaiD Board). Application to be delivered at the Board Office before 8 p.m. on April Ist. A PETITION. Mr R. M. Cameron, waited on the Board en behalf of a number of ratepayers and presented tho following petition : ''To the Chairman and Members, Helensville Town Board, —Helensville Swing Bridge—We. the undersigned j ratepayers of the Helensville Town District, respectfully ask that before the Board come to a decision on this matter that same be referred for settlement to the ratepayers by vote, (1.) Repairing of tho present bridge, (2), The erection of a New Bridge on the present site, (3.) The erection of a new Bridge on a site in the vicinity of the Post Office. (Signed) G. H. Sellars, R. M. Cameron. George Bailey, C. G. Handin, William Cullens, E. J. Cameron, F. Travers, E. L. Hill, H. V. Sewell, Wilfred Alkn, E. Stewart, Alice Becroft, Geo. Caimdle, A. Hoist, J. L. Stewart, L. R. Stewart, M. Meinhold, Daniel Stewart, C. Winifred Stewart" Mr Cameron stated that they could have got a larger number of signature, had they canvassed, but thought there were enough for.the purpose. Tho Chairman proposed and Mr McLeod seconded, That the petition be received. GENERAL. Application from Mr J. Hunter for driver's license, and for license for vehicles plying for hire. Licenses granted. Application from Sir E. R. Smith, for driver's license for bus' seivice, name not mentioned. After a short discussion it was decided that drivers tako out licenses in their own names. It was resolved that consideration of Town By-laws and Cemetery Bylaws bo deferred till next meoting. The Chairman stated that Mr E. Allen had replied that he was willing to act as arbitrator on the Boards bohalf in connection with tlie puiuhase of land for the water supply scheme, and would make an appointment with Mr Evans who is acting on Mr John Hands behulf. The Chairman mentioned (with a smile) that the Ratepayers meeting in connection with the bridge proposals had been held, and members know the result. Mr McLeod replying that it was time wo hid another, ratepayers had stated they would be willing to pay a shilling entrance fee next time. An application from Mv J. Simcock for the position of overseer on the drainage and waterworks, forwarding letter from Mr Wilson, C.E, asking him to apply to the Board for the position. It was resolved that the application be received pending final arrangement with Uv Wilson. The Chairman staging that if Mr Wilson was ready before next Boara night a special meeting would bo wiled. The Chairman stated he had ordered several hundred yards of metal from the Morningside Quarry. Mr McLeod : The Waiteinata Q, C had tried to get metal fram. t^o same place, but tfiey w\}h\ not got a yard, as the Ooivpahy had sold thoir wholo output He thought tho matter should be looked into or the Board would not got moral in time to lay it. Matter to be attended to. CEMISTEKY. The Chairman stated that part of the ground had been ploughed, and Re suggested trees should he plan bed on it, He .drew the Bo^ds attention to the fact that the two acres adjoining the cemetery owned by the Catholic Church people could be secured for about £60. Accounts amounting to £I g lOs 9d paid between meetings were passed, and accounts amounting to £43 7s 2d were passed for payment. -

DOMAIN BOARD. Same members present, Minutes read and confirmed. The Chairman stated that the special meeting arranged to he held at the Hot Springs did not take place. He had instructed the caretaker to have a picket fence put round the bath houses so as visitors would go through the office to get to them. He had also arranged about quantity of earth for bowling green, and had instructed the caretaker to get lawn grasses down. It was resolved that a shower be put in the swimming bath house. It wias resolved on the motion of Chairman, seconded by Mr McLeod That application be made to the City Council for the services of Mr Pearson, head gardner of tho City of Auckland, re laying out the grounds. It was decided that the footpath leading through the grounds towards the Springside Boardinghouse be formed and that a half-circle gate be erected. The Clerk stated that the takings for the past three weeks was £31 10s. •.The Clerk wae.instructed to apply for as much money as he had vouchers to cover. Mr Stewart: The swelling of the takings was partly due to the running of the motor lorry. Mr McLeod : You should run to an advertised timetable. The s advisability of putting up a swimming bath exclusively for ladies was discussed at some length. Mr Becroft asked if the caretaker could not grow shrubs to sell on the Boards behalf. The Chairman said the caretaker had plenty to do, besides it would clash with the local nurseries. Account's amounting to £26 6s lid paid out between meetings were passed, and accounts amounting to £21 9s were passed for payment.
