Opening of New Tennis Court and Euchre Party at Waimauku.

Waimauku was en fete on Saturday last for thej occasion of the opening of the new Tennis Courts The weather was gloriously fine and the attendance good, players and others coming from Helensville and surrounding districts. Mrs Foster performed, the opening ceremony and unfurled the Club Ensign amidst much enthusiasm. Mr Watts, in a happy speech welcomed .the visitors and.remarked oh 'the delightful social intercourse . which would necessarily ensue from such a gathering. The courts were in splendid order and reflect great credit on the committee, especially v to vthe ;■ energetic Secretary (Mr Lambert) and treasurer i(Mr Radford) to.' whom may be attributed much, of the success of the gathering ; 'games were indulged in till almost dusk. A Euchre and dance took place in the evening, where opportunity was afforded to say farewell to Mr and Mrs Johnstone who are leaving the district for fresh fields and pastures new. Mr E. E. Hawken Secretary of the Hall -Committee, in a neat little speech, stressed the regret of. the residents at Iheir departure, and as a token of esteem- presented Mrs Johnstone with a handsome biscuit barrel. Mrs Johnstone, in responding, expressed regret at leaving, but hoped to be amongst them again some day. The attendance at the Hall was exceptionally good and dancing continued till midnight, Miss Donovan, of Helensville, kindly assisting with the music. The Euchre tournament resulted in Miss Herd of Huntly, winning the ladies' prize, and Mr Edwin Mitchelson the gentlemen's.
