PROGRESS IN HELENSVILLE.

During the last half of the year 1911; the building trade has been fairly brisk, contractors finding it hard to get workmen to keep up with the pace. Thero has been some thirteen buildiugs erected in the township, including tho Kaipara Dairy Factory, the Technical School, the Public Library, and about tf residences; while large additions have been made to Stewart Bros., Dairy Factory, the Private Hospital, and other buildings have been renovate 1. The local painters have also been kept busy. Tho opening of 1912 shows signs of beiDg a record year in ttie building line as thero are already five buildings including a shop in Commercial Road, just about to be commenced. Mr A. Becroft, who is just finishing Mr 0. Sandin's residence, is to start building a residence iu Portland Crescent for Mr Bert Becroft; Mr J. Smicock ia finishing off the manager's residence at the Kaipara Dairy Factory, and has other buildings on hand; while Messrs Osborne and Hoist who have just about completed two house3 on the Awaroa River bank, will commence another at the South end of Commercial road. Messrs Bradly & Son, painters, are putting the finishing touches to the Library, and this building when it leaves their hands will be a building worthy of the in<» spection of visitors, as well as an ornament to the town; Messrs Stewart Bros., stores are are also being repainted, likewise Mrs B. Cul* leu's Boardinghouse. In the near future the Advertiser Bu:ldings are also set down for a coat of paint. During the past year a large su^iof money has been spent on tba Hot Spriugs ground, and there is still more money to bo spent on fuither improvements during the present year. The Helensville Swing Bridge is about to be strengthened, £650 being allocated for the rebuilding of the approaches thereto. Money for improving the road from the bridge to past the Springs grounds is. we belie re, included in theMareatai Riding loan of £7000 recently carried.

The water and drainage scheme for Helansvillei for which a loan of £1000 has been secured, should he started almost at once. This iu itself means a great deal to tho district, and taking all things) together the outlook for 1912 is a good one.
