V.M.C.A. CONCERT.

Last Tuesday evening the residents oi Helensrille were favoured with « Concert given by members of the V.M.C.A. Auckland. The visitors arrived by the 7. 30 train and were met by Mr Meredith, who escorted them to the Forester's Hall where a dainty repast was set out by Mrs J. Stewart, Mrs Page and others. Shortly after 8 o'clock the programme was opened by a short prayer, and an address. The V.M.C.A. Quartette consisting of Mr Exton, Mr Gladding Mr Wakemnn, and Me Farlane sang " Farewell Beloved" and"T'is Sabbath Morn" and "Father laid the Carpet on the Stairs " these pieces were well rendered. Mr Exton has a very sweet tenor voice and was heard to advantage in " Three for Jack " "Anchord " and " Mary " Mr Madinson Cardpn gave a splendid exhibition of his elocutionary abilities. A musical acempaniement played by hia little daughter Miss Alma Cardon added to the eflect in his first piece. His encore was '• The House that Jack built. Mr Wakeham, Mr Gladding and Exton comprised , the V.M.C.A. Trio, and attempted "The Little farm well Tilled " but as it was not quite a success gave another item in which they showed their real ability. Mr N ; Tait gave a good exhibition of juggling, some of his tricks beinir rerv clever, Mr McFarlane addressed the people giving several anecdotes which made his epeech very interesting. Mr Cameron acted as stage manager It was a pity this concert had not been better advertised, because several people missed .quite a treat in, not knowing of it, .
