The Concert in aid of the Public Library building fund, held in the Foresters' Hall on Friday, evening-, was well attended, and a good programme an anged b/ the committee Messi's Page, Rimmer, and Stringer, was submitted, all the tiems being well received. The proceeds amounting to about £10 is a great help towards raising the £75, the amount of the Coronation Grant which it is proposed to lift before the end of December, and Mr Page in thanking thoso who assisted, pointed out to those present that anyone willing to assist the object conld do so by aiding their signatures to the subscription lists which were in circulation. It is the intention of the Library Committee to proceed at once with the plans and the building should be completed by the 31st of December the date by which the aplication is to be in, with an account of the amount expended so as to be able to get £1 for £1 for the amount laid out on the building.
The programme opened with a pianoforte duet "Selections from Maritana "by-Mrs D. and Miss M. Stewart was well received, and was followed by *' Gladiator "by Mr White, who was in good- voice. "Mayjfibikj'v by the Helensville Glee Club given, while a recitation " Shamus O'Brien," by Mr Meredith, in his usual fine style, received an encore. Mr R. E. Fenton (Shelly Beach) pleased the audience with a Bassoon solo, "Nocturne" by Burg. Muller, and was recalled. Miss Fletcher's render* iag of " Perfect Way " (Willely), was clearly given, and in response to an encore, she sang " The Sweetest Flower," very sweetly. Miss Little opened the seccnd part with piano solos " Gaiete de Coeur " and " Hobromski" in finished style, then came Mi J. Hunt with his popular mouth organ solos; and Miss Fletcher again pleased the audience with her rendering of " Still as the Night." Quartette " Sweet and Lqw," by Mrs Page, Miss Donovan, Messrs Page and Rimmer, was nicely and clearly given, and Mr Fenton, with his Bassoon, received the appreciation, of the audience for Ms playing of " Figaro " (Mozart) and '• Farewell." It is some time since a local audience have heard this in* sfrument, and we hope Mr Fenton will appear again in the near future. Mr Meredith's " Hooley " entitled him to another, "Father Flarety's Misv take " being also well received ; and the item by the Helensville Glee Club, " Goodnight, Beloved " was given in a very creditable manner, and this Club is to be commended, not only for the manner in which all their items are given, but for their willingness in assisting in every concert for whatever object.
The evening's entertainment concluded with a dance to which a goodly number stayed. The music was sup* plied by Misses Riinmer, Little, and Donovan.
