POLICE COURT.
* (Before J. A. Wilson, Esq.. and W. Ryall Fosbroke, Esq., J's P.) TUESDAY, NOVEMBER T T ir. Two well known characters in Ho]ensville, Henry Green and Arthui; Carter, guradiggers of To Pua, 25 miles down tho liver, wore charged on two counts, that they did on or about the 6th day of November, steal one pig the property of Mr James Stewart, and with wilfully grounding three pigs belonging, to the same person. On the application of the Police they wero remanded till the Olst inst. MONDAY, NOVEMBER 13th. Before the same Justices. Henry Green and Arthur Carter wero charged as above. Prom the evidence produced the two accused arrived in Uelensville on tho morning of tho 6th inst., by boat leaving, their boat opposite tho gate of Mr James Stewart's slaughterhouse, and had to wait till about 10 p. in. before the tide wag high enough to get the boat off to return home. During the afternoon they had visited „ the slaughter house conversing with Mr Jbradly the) manager. The accused left the yard at 5 p.m. with Mr Bradly who went home. On feeding his pigs as usual the following1 morniu»; Mr-Bradly found three oi the pigs in a pen badly hacked about, and one missing. An axe used for the purpose o£ cutting firewood was found covered with blood and pigs hair, and ou the grass near where accused boat had been moored Bradly discovered a quantity il blood also a sheath knife. Constable Driseoll was informed and on proceeding to accused camp lie discovered remains of the pig newly pickled, and also parts lyinyf abcrui. Ho arrested tho accused who admitted the- offence and brought thorn to ths Helens^ille lock up that night. Both accused pleaded guilty of the charges and weio commutsd to the Auckland .Supreme Court for sentouce.
