HUNT CLUB BALL.

The Helensville Hunt Club Ball eventuated last Thursday evening, but owing to the very unfavourable weather, the number fell far short of expectations, there being only 40 odd couples present, several braving the elements coming from a distance. The Ball commenced shortly after 8.30 p.m. with the grand march and waltz and continued until the early hours of the morning with good spirit, and proved exceptionally pleasant and enjoyable. The hall, which had re>. ceived special attention from the ladies and gentlemen of the decoration

committee, looked very pretty, and

showed that pains and artistic taste , had not been spared, Tho windows were all "hung with curtains, while the walls were draped with crimson muslin, and at the lower end of the hall hung two saddles, bridles, whips, and riding boots representing the purpose of the Club The floor was in perfect order, and, with the excellent

music rupplied by Meredith's band of - five players, made the dancing a v^ pleasure. ! Misses Donovan, Little and Dye kindly supplied the extras. The M's 0., Messrs B. Hunter, J, Hand, J. Lambert, Junr., P. Williams and M. Adlington carried out their duties iv a most courteous manner. The supper, for which Mr Becroft catered, was really a sumptuous repast,, the first course consisting of roast turkey and fowl with ham, salad and tasty now potatoes, followed by all imaginable sweetmeats consisting of trifles, jellies, fruit salids and confectionary of all imaginable description. The tables were pretilly laid out with floral decorations, while tho attention bestowed upon the guests by the

catering staff was excellent and no one

was neglected. The function.was a ' most signal success, from a pleasurable point of view, for which congratulations are due to the Hon. Secretary, Mr. UK F. Willis, and the committee, upon the manner in which all arrangements were ' carried out, and at the same time we are sorry that the bad state of the weather prevented it being financially so as the elaborate preparations deserved.
