Town Board.
Tho ordinary monthly meeting of the above Board was held on Monday evening when there were present Messrs J, McLeod, J. A. Wilson, A. Becrof t and Captain Hammond. Mr Jas. McLeod was voted to the chair, in the absence of Mr Stewart.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.
DEPUTATION,
A. deputation from the Helensyille Hot Springs Swimming Club, Messrs Tui McEwnrand G. Willis, waited on the Board to make application for/ the use of the Baths fora Carnival on Friday, November 10th, and subsequent carnivals to be held during the year.' ■ '"" - '''-■;.-:' ' "'• ■•:.' ■, "•.■•■
Mr TuiMcEwin explained that a Swimming Club had been formed and the deputation had been instructed to arrange with the Board as to tho rent of the Baths as they intended holding
nieetings throughout the year. He 1^; thought that one-third of the taking* as was charged at a previous Carnival :\ was rather much, seeing that they had Ato find lights. They had fixed' on night as being the most suitfor visitors from Auckland; they Ww expected Mr Champion, the N.Z. swimmer, to be at the opening carnival to give an sxhibition. The Chairman explained that the ;j^Board required all the money they could get at present to improve the grounds, but would do all possible to help the Club. Mr Willis asked if the Board could not fix a sum for the night of each Carnival.
llr Becroft thought that if the Club was going to be a success for the promoters, it would be a success for the Board. He thought it could be brought down to one-lourth of the takings. •
Members generally were in favour of aieisdng the iCluh, being satisfied it would increase' tho revenue of the Springs. It was resolved that the Boaid receive one-forth of the takings for the Carnival, the Club to find the lighting, and that the date asked be granted. It was also agreed to allow the petition in front of the bath-house door to bo shifted.
The deputation" then withdrew.
GENERAL BUSINESS,
The Secretary, stated that he had ordered 40 tons of tar from the Gas Company, to bo forwarded as required. The Hobson County Council wrote acknowledging receipt of £1.0 5s lOd, arrears of Kaipara Licensing Expenses and asking for , cheque for balance £7 9s. The was instructed to forward amount.
Mr J, Stallworthy. M.P,, wrote that he would do his best t« secure a grant for metalling Rautawhiri Road, fetating that they were at a disadvantage owing to the lateness of tho application, and forwarding the following reply from the Minister of Public "Works: Dear Sir -I am in receipt of your letter of 28th ult., enclosing a letter , from Clerk, Helensville Town Board, with reference to a grant of £150 iar metalling the Rautawhiri Road; and in reply, may say that I have caiefulJy noted the reprosenta- ' tions made by you in support of the Boards application, and.will give the question 'of providing for this work my full consideration when i am framing the estimates for the current jeex. —Hi McKenzie. The Clerk stated he had 'also re ceived a memo" from the Minister to the same effect, A letter was received from the Railway Department stating that a Toucher for £15 would be passed when footpath had been formed. The Secretary stated that the result of the poll for £10000 had been Gazetted. It was resolved on tne motion of Mr Hammond, seconded by Mr "Wilson, That a special rate of 1f d. in the pound in connection with the drainage and water scbems be struck. The Clerk stated that metal on order had come forward and been put where most required. Instructed to order 2q yards of metal, and 25 yards of shell. .'•;■.:/ The Clerk was instructed to have the notice board at the Pound re • erected, and get the-present poundkeepers name put on in place of the one already there. An application by Mr Becrof t for a permit to build a s*roomed houe» was k^grauted of usual fee. Resolved to have the carMp& removed and charge the ,owner of. property with the cost. ■"*'■"■ Mr Stewart stated that he was endeavouring to procure property within the vicinity of the cemetery, and if it could bo procured as he.expected he would made it a donation to the Board. . Accounts paid, between meeting armmnting to £59 12s Id were passed; and accounts amounting to £42 9s 6d ■were passed for payment. DOMAIN BOARD. The minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. The following letters were forwarded by Mr Stallworthy which he had received in answer to his communications to the Minister of Agriculture : " I am in receipt of your letter of the J«Bth ia&t., giving cover to a com- . munication you have received from the Secretary ot the .Helensville Domain Board asking tlat payment of the

"I am in receipt of your letter of the srd iust., giving cover to an application from the Helensville Domain Board for a grant of .£ISOO for the purpose of building a sanatorium at the Hot Springs, Your representations in connection with the matter have been noted, and will receive con^ sideration.—Thos. Mackenzie."
The Secretary stated that £250 had come to hand and Mr Stallworthy was making application for £350 balance of grant of £1000.
A discussion re charge of 3d for use of telephone at the Springs ensued, and it was decided that the charge be done, away "with, and it be made free for the use of visitors.
In answer to a question Mr McLeod said the' Waitemata County Council had a man attending to the road between the Swing Bridge and the Springs, putting it in good order. It was resolved to procure 50 yards of soil for top-dressing the bowling green from Messrs Shepherd Bros., Port Albert, at 12s 6d a ton.
The Chairman stated that he had arranged with Mr M'ackie to plough the large paddock at the Springs and take a crop off it.
Mr Hammond suggested that a Board member fihould be appointed as visiting inspector of the Springs and ground, the appointment to be made monthly.
It was resolved that the Chaiiman be visiting inspector for the present month, after which members take the position in rotation,
The Chairmar stated that Mr Harding had orfered piles for a wharf at the Springs.
Mr McLeod thought that the Waitemata County Council might assist with money from his riding. Accounts, amounting to £52 2s 6d paid between meeting were passed, and accounts ammounting to £35 14s 8d were passed for payment. The meeting then terminated.
