The mimites of the previous moeting were read and confirmed,

PUBLIC LIBRA KY.

A deputation from the Public Library Committee, consisting of Messrs C. H. Spinley, and A. J. Hill, ■waited on the Board re Coronation grant of L 75.. The Chairman in regard to a Library site said that when Mr Ronayne, Manager of Railways, was in Helensville, he had offered a site for a Library between the Post Office and Mrs Oxleys. ; The site that was to be had Bona.ft.time' back was where the Post Office TaoT^r s|t6od, but owing to objections it ;was- allowed to laps«. Mr Spinley said they had a site, 75 links by 156, corner, of No. 8 Avenue and Commercial Road, adjoining the Police Station, and explained how the land had been ac-

/quired some years back, and read a ) notice* irom the Government Gazette *"\ notifying grant of *itla, which deed he "• )tj^B Chairman staled that the Board .hjpo* secured the Coronation Grant, and the Library could get it fox building purposes. They required to collect an equal amount to lift it, which must be done before the 31st, December, 1311. He suggested that the deputation should call a meeting of these interested to forward the matter. Mr Hill stated that the committee were getting out subscription lists and would do their best to raise £ for £ for the whole amouut, before the time specified. They had already been promised several substantial subscriptions. The deputation then withdrew. HELENSYILLE SWING BRIDGE. Mr McLeod-said that each member of the Waitemata County Council were going to make applications foi loans for their different ridings in the Waitemata County. He wanted to know what position the Town Board would take in connection with the Bridge, so as he could make up the a Tnount for his riding, by adding Ll^OO half the cost of the bridge, or, if the Board recommended it, by putting on L2OOO, the Board to pay the interest on their half. He wanted to know so that if he put one or the other amount on his list he could explain it to ratepayers in hia riding. The Chairman thought the matter could be left over to be conbidercd. ..

Mr McLood. — I want an answer fenight one way or the other, so as to be able to fix the amount I want to ask for.

Mr Hammond.—Would that interfere with the WateT and Drainage scheme. He thought they should get rid of one scheme at a time.

Mr McLeod.— If the Board asked for a loan, it need not be taken up at once, it could be taken up a few years later. This was a good time to ask for it.

Mr Wilson thought it would be a wise move to go in for a loan ac the present time.

The Chairman thought that L2OOO would never build it, Some of the Ratepayers were in favour of extending the lown Board area; some on Mr McLeod's own side of the Bridge amongst them.

Mr McLeod said that he did not know about that, he could count the number on his finger ends who would "be in favour of it on his sido of the bridge.

Mr Hammond contended that if that happened the Bridge would he under the control of the Board.

In answer to the Chairman, Mv MeLeod said the County Council were going on with the abutment at their end, as soon afi the metal was on the ground. Tbe Chairman eaid that if the abutment was gone on with, and the site changed, it would be no good. Mr McLeod.- — It is permanent work and would be there if a new bridge was built.

Mr Hammond thought that the meeting of members of the Waitemata County Council and the Town Board had been wasted as nothing had come out of the inspection of the bridge.

Mr McLeod. —No, when tho members of the Council came up to inspect the bridge, the Chairman brought up a new site, aud they were not prepared to take that .on. He contended that if they shifted the site it would all come out of the Maratai.

The Chairman said them was a good deal of feeling in the bridge matter, and the ratepayers should decide it. Mr McLeod had said there was no river "frontage except through the railway. Stewast Bros, and D. Stewart's property. A good frontage oould be secured near tae railway station.

- Mr McLeod agreed with the Chairanerri the feeling- in connection with the bridge, fie sdll contended that the^puplic liad no proper river froutagesa^W'north end of the township. ' The Chairman. —The matter could Vie got over by applying for a vote for a ISew Bridge on a site to be approved of. He thought a number would vote for a new site.

Mr McLeod. — As far as my rate-

payers ase concerned the site is not likel jto be shifted. If there wore no \ recommendations to make, he would

net include the bridge in the loan for his riding. The Chairman,- -A Joan could always be got if necessary, and the matter could wait until it was further gone
