welcomed tiie important co operation of the Marquis of Hartingtou with reference to the Irish question, and pointed out that the Unionist Liberals were gradually increasing in number. He declared that the Irish people were being deceived and that only the stern enforcing of the law would undeceive them.

Furious gales have been raging in England and Ireland during the last twenty-four hours. They have been especially violent in the south of England where numerous wrecks have occurred causing much loss of life. Much havoc have been caused by the gales in Ireland, Paris, December 8.

Floquet, who was asked to form a Ministry, has declined. Goblet, formerly Minister for Public Instruction, has, however, accepted the task.
