Owing to the length of our report of Monday night’s railway meeting and the many telegrams included therein, we are compelled to hold over several cablegrams and local intelligence. Pedestrians and others are reminded that nominations for the Kumara handicap foot race close at 8 o’clock this evening. The handicap will be declared on Thursday, the 16th inst.
Tenders are required for the purchase of a fourth share in Gray and party’s extended claim, Larrikins. The special advantages of this claim are set forth in the advertisement. Tenders are to be left at Mr P. M'Grath’s Store, Dillman’s Town, addressed to Mr Patrick Olune, by 7p.m. on Saturday, 18th inst. Professor Black is preparing data for a handbook he is writing as a history of the goldfields and schools of mines in New Zealand, which will be published by the Government. The work will contain all information about the expenditure in connection with the establishment of schools of mines in this colony, the number of members, subscriptions received by members, names of first and present committee, &c.
The Bank of New Zealand, Hokitika, passed entries on Saturday for 29100z5. 7dwts. gold bullion, valued at £11,650, for shipment at Greymouth, being a month’s purchases.
