Joseph Bell, superintendent of the Church of England Sunday School, was charged this morning before Hall, J.P., •with an attempt on a girl, and with indecently assaulting two others in the ventry on Sunday, 31st October. The children on whom the offences are said to have been committed are about ten years of age. The accused stands remanded till Monday. Hawera, November 19. A man named J. D. M'Lean, carpenter, was arrested this morning on a charge of being in possession of a gun with an unlawful intent. He presented a gun at iredale, farmer, last evening, but then said he had made a mistake and that it was a brother of Iredale for whom he was looking, and •when he found him he would shoot him. He makes charges against the Iredale he was looking for in connection with his wife. He was remanded till Wednesday. Auckland, November 19. Bowling, chief officer, finding that a seaman named Williams did not come when called, went to fetch him. Williams refused to come out, and the officer tried to push him out, when he turned on Bowling and stabbed him near the right lung. The would-be murderer then made another attempt to knife him, but was pi evented by a sailor named Moore. On hearing the scuffle the others rushed in and secured Williams, who was placed in irons. Bowling was very weak from the effects, but is progressing favourably. Williams will be brought before the Resident Magistrate's Court to-morrow.
