MOUNT LYELL.
It is reported from Hobart that one of the prospectors at Mount Lyell has so!d a portion of his interest for £12,000. Others who have returned speak well of the prospects of the field, as the Dyke formation is supposed to extend for a long distance. The roads leading to the field are in a frightful state, and some miners who attempted to go by the Derwent route had turned back. It took those who went by way of Macquarie Harbour two days to travel 30 miles. No special new finds have been reported. One hundred ounces of gold in specimens were brought to Launceston the other day; some of them are j described as very fine. Mr Thureau j Inspector of Mines, who is now at I Mount Lyell, has s« n i- f , 'o the j Mit.'ist.o:-f >r riatwl r ,-l''o\ tv <;- i trr.)!.><;i, in'oimin?. tho has rv'.rofuiiy examined ''v:.'
