GOLD REEF DISCOVERIES NEAR ALBURY.
Melbourne, October 27. A discovery has been made of a reef near AI bury, on the New South Wales border, which is believed by some to be likely to proves rival to Mount Morgan. A correspondent of the Argus writes as follows concerning it:—“The recent discoveries made near Jindera are developing beyond the most sanguine expectations. The Bangowanah and Soudan mines were inspected on Saturday by several gentlemen, who were astonished at their appearance. The Soudan Mount appears to be a mass of auriferous reefs and alluvial deposits. No matter where prospected, on the surface or at a depth, gold can be found in varying quantities, from barely pay. able to great richness. Numerous tests have been made all over the claim, and there are thousands of tons for the battery. This mine is being pushed on vigorously, and a reef was discovered about a week ago, and a trial from it yesterday gave over an ounce to the ton. It is the intention of the owners to put on a 30-head battery as quickly as possible. An inspection of the Bangowanah mine fully justifies the statements made about it. The reef at 35ft, deep has proved 24ft. wide, A trial crushing from the reef (seven tons) gave 20£nzs.. There is a large body of stone available for crushing, and a 15-head battery will be erected by the end of next month. The tunnel is now in the. reef eight feet, showing equal richness.”
