The second day’s racing of the Vicloiia Amateur Turf Club meeting took place at Caulfield to-day. The weather was fine but cloudy. There was a large atiendance, including his Excellency the Governor and suite. The follotying are the results of the principal events:—

Caulfield Stakes—Mile and a furl°ng. Isonomy i Malua 2 The Nun 3 Nino horses started. Time, 2mins. Ifsecs. THE CAULFIELD CUP. A handicap of 1,500 sovs. 1,000 sovs. of the said sum to go to the first horse, 300 sovs. to the second, and 200 sovs. to the third. Mr W. Strickland’s b b Ben Bolt, 5 yrs, 7st 6ib. 1 Mr R. J. Sadler’s Silvermine, 5 vrs, Bst ... 2 Mr M. Lough 1 in’s b g Britisher, aged, Bst. 21b. 3 Betting—Silvermine, i to 1; Britisher, 6to 1 ; Recall, 6to 1 ; Boolka, 7to 1 j Ben Bolt, Bto 1 ; others 100 to 20 to I, The fol lotting horses started :—Ben Bolt, Boolka, Britisher, Bonnie Doon, Barilda, Islander, Lesbia, Mi I (stream, Recall, Zeno, Remus, Silvermine, The Levite, First Consul, Jim Cain, Mentmore, Tarpeia, and St. John. The first to get away were Boolka, St. John, Lesbia, Levite, and Jim Cain. Boolka soon took the lead and maintained it to the mile post. Britisher, Ben Bolt, Levite, and Silvermine, however, came up to Boolka and at the turn for home were well together in front Britisher led a bit into the straight; but Silvermine and Ben Bolt soon headed him and had a splendid tussle to the winning post, Ben Bolt finishing by half-a-head in front of Silvermine, Britisher a good third. Jim Cain fell early in the race. Time, 2mins. 42secs. (Received October 18, 1.15 p.m.) October 17. The following is the latest betting for the Melbourne Cup : 10 to 1 against Bon Bolt 15 to 1 „ Britisher 10 to 1 „ Isonoray 12 to 1 ~ Malua 25 to 1 „ Sheet Anchor 10 to 2 „ Silver Mine 6to 1 „ Trident
