VOLUNTEER FIRE BRIGADE.
The monthly meeting of the Volunteer Fire Brigade was held in the Town Hall on Wednesday evening; present— Capt. Burger, Lieut. Anderson, Treasurer Brayshaw, Fireman Smith, Murtha, Ziegler, Valeutine, Adamson, Micklejohn, Stubbs, Stevenson, Howe, G-ebhardt, Close, M'Ewen, Martin, and Rndkin. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and con firmed. Messrs Rudkin and M'Ewen reported having canvassed the town for honorary mem be? a, and that the following gentle* m«u had entered their names as hono-
rary members of the Brigade:—Messrs D. Hannan, J. Mnlvihill, H. FitzBimmons, P. D. Todd. W. Kil'een, Jhb. Woods, W. Nichohon, W. Barnett, J. S. Pearn, S. G-arguilo. Also, that no definite information had been given by the banks; bat probably the usual donation of two guineas would be paid. Captain Burger, Lieut. Anderson, and Fireman Valentine, Ziegler, and the Secretary were delegated to interview the banks with reference to the contributions to the night watchman. The Treasurer reported a credit bal- * anceof£l9 16s sd. Accounts amounting to £3 were passed for payment. Messrs Arnott and Seabrook's account was referred back for correction. On a resolution that nine members be now elected as a representative team for the competition at Greymouth on the Bth November, a ballot was taken, and the following team declared dnly elected :—Brayshaw, Adamson, Smith, Murtha, Micklejohn, Martin, M'Ewen, Anderson, with W. Close emergency man. The mode of practice, it was resolved, should be left in the hands of the team to arrange. Messrs Brayshaw, Murtha, and Martin were appointed to canvass for the New Year's night demonstration. The captain, secretary, and appa-ratus-keeper were authorised to procure fireworks, &c, for New Year's night. The various officers reported their respective gear to be in good working order. Receipts to members fund were handed in, amounting to a total of 40s. The meeting was theu adjourned to Wednesday, the 27th inst.
