FOOTBALL. THE NEW SOUTH WELSHMAN IN NEW ZEALAND. In reference to the results of the visit of the New South Wales footballers to New Zealand, "Mark," in the Town and Country Journal of the 28th ultimo writes:— " The matches played by our boys in New Zealand have ended as I expected. Two wins out of eleven matches is not a grand performance, and far below what we ought to look for from a representative team of New South Wales. Sending teams of this description into the very hotbed of the Rugby game is not calculated to give the New Zealanders a very high estimate of our prowess in the football field. And I doubt whether the crack fifteen of this colony would have been able to reverse the order of things. The team has certainly been very unfortunate in some of the best players meeting with accidents in the early matches. Rough play seems to predominate over the scientific in the land of the Maori, for scarcely a match is played but tome accident is sure to happen. Whatever the treatment of the New Zealanders may be to our men on the field, they certainly make up for any delinquencies on their part by acting in the most hospitable manner toward the whole of our representatives when off it. Our boys will be back in Sydney next week, and, although they do not come home with the laurel on their brows, they will be heartily we'comed by their brother foolballers." The following shows the result of the various matches played aud the number of points gained : New Zea- New South landers Welshmen won. won. Points. Points.
