An exciting scene took place in Paris on August Bth in an itinerant menagerie at the outer Boulevards Fair. A beasttamer named Graconeth was in a lion's cage, one of the inmates of which had a surly air, and tore his thigh with its claws. The spectators were terror-struck, but the tamer in falling managed to keep his eyes fixed on those of the beast, and when, he rose backed out of the cage, frowning and holding high his whip in a menacing attitude. The blood spurted through the torn hose, and after he had slammed the grated door in the lion's face he fainted. Mrs Crawford, of Crawford - Dilke notoriety, is so much of a social curiosity that we (English paper) may be permitted to describe her. Briefly, she is a plump, fresh, pretty woman, of the milkmaid style of beauty—eminently a "pleasing person" from a voluptuary's point of view. Her voice is well-tuned and pleasant, and her manners have all the artlessness of an ingenuous girl of fourteen. A Lovely Chaplet.—A late fashion report says :—" Nothing can be prettier than a chaplet of hop vines in blossom.". A recent medical review says :—" Nothing can be a better renovator of the health than American Hop Bitters. They aid in all the operations of nature ; toning up the stomach, assisting the food to become properly assimilated, and promote healthy action in all the organs. The dictates of fashion, as well as the laws of health, alike favour a right application of hops." Read Mothers Don't Know—How many children are punished for being uncouth, willful and indifferent to instructions or reward simply because they are out of health ! An intelligent lady said of a child of this kind : —"Mother dontknow i that she should give the little one moderate doses of American's Co.'s Hop Bitters for two or three weeks, and the child would be all a parent could desire."
