Caffrey, the Great Barrier Island murderer, has been arrested and identified. The Christchurch coach arrived this afternoon, at the usual hour. We have received a copy of the " Story and Evidence of the Prosecution of Thomas Hall and Margaret Graham Houston, charged with attempting to murder Mrs Catherine Hall, at Timaru." The book numbers 64 pages, and contains portraits of the principal actors in the drama, also of the detective, doctor, inspector, and reporter who were connected with the trial. It is a cheap shilling's worth of sensational reading, and copies may be procured from Mr Spiers, bookseller. Moses Thomas, better known as "Mo Thomas," one of the characters of the plr.ee for many years past, shuffled off this mortal coil at the Grey liiver Hospital yesterday. But with all his degradation and love of drink, the Police could say nothing against the poor fellow, though his companions were not of the choicest. To-morrow, at half-past one o'clock Messrs R. W. Wade and Co. will sell by auction, under instructions from the Secretary of the Masonic Lodge, the freehold section in Main street, on which is erected the Masonic Hall, together with all the furniture, &c, connected with the hall. The building has been newly piled, and affords an eligible investment for hire as a concert or ball room. Tenders are required, labour only, for the removal of two buildings and the reerection of same. Specifications can be seen at Mr Seddon's, to whom tenders are to be addressed on or before Saturday next, at 8 p.m. A Lovely Chaplet.—A late fashion report says :—" Nothing can be prettier than a chaplet of hop vines in blossom." A recent medical review says :—" Nothing can be a better renovator of the health than American Hop Bitters. - They aid in all the operations of nature ; toning up the stomach, assisting the food to become properly assimilated, and promote healthy action in all the organs. The dictates of fashion, as well as the laws of health, alike favour a right application of hops." Read
