KUMARA SCHOOL DISTRICT.
The monthly meeting of the Kumara School District Committee was held in the Town Hall on Monday evening; present—The Chairman (R. J. Seddon, Esq.), Messrs F. Barrowman, W. S. llanna, Jamieson, Munro, and A. C. Campbell (Hon. Sec). The minutes of the previous meeting were read and coufirmed. The outward correspondence was read and approved of. The inward correspondence was read and received : From Mr R. E. Wylde, thmking the Committee for their very complimentary testimonial; and also, from Mr Gordon Harcourt, requesting the patronage of the Committee for an entertainment he intended giving in Kumara shortly. The first was acknowledged, and the request in the second letter acceded to. The report of the sub-committee— Messrs F. Barrowman, Jamieson, and Munio appointed to report on the requirements of the Kumara school buildings, fences and improvements to ground, was read and considered, and with certain alterations, adopted. It was resolved that the Chairman see the manager of the Government race, to make arrangements for water to the school, and, with the sanction of the Board, to repair drains. Mr Munro, one of the Committee, was requested to prepare specifications of work required to be done at the Kumara and Rangiriri schools; and it was resolved that tenders be called for same by next meeting of the Committee. The Visiting Committee Messrs Barrowman and Munro—reported having visited the Kumara School on the 22nd September, and found the work going on in the usual orderly and systematic manner. There was a very good attendance in all the room«; and it was noticeable that there was considerable improvement in the general cleanliness of the premises. The Secretary reported having obtained some carbolic acid from luspector Smith for disinfecting purposes. The Secretary reported having received from the Board, through the Chairman, the sum of £ll 4s lOd, being the third quarter's allowance for the year. It was resolved that Inspector Emerson be written to and asked to instruct the police at Kumara to look after the School grounds, and to proceed against any person damaging the fences or trespassing on the school grounds. An account for advertising was passed, and referred to the Board for payment. Accounts for firewood £3 13s, stores ss, and caretaker £2, were passed for payment; and concluded the business of the meeting.
