Fortunately Hogan missed tho direct force of the charge, but it sent a lot of tin utensils flying about the hut, and Hogan was seriously cut about the face and arm. His trousers were completely torn off, but, rather oddly, without injuring the skin. He has been removed to the hospital and is doing well. A man named Crilby was killed some time back on the Win ton line, and a publican has now been fined £5 by the R.M. for allowing deceased to leave his house while in a state of intoxication. . Christchurch, September 7. By a fire at Springfield to-night a dwelling belonging to the Malvern Road Board, and occupiad by Mrs Shanks, was destroyed. The furniture was iusured for £IOO in theN.Z. Office. The fire was caused by a child setting fire io some toi grass in a room. Auckland, September 7. A Maori whare was burnt down at Whiretnaka, and an old man burnt to death. The case of Marama v. W. M'Arthur and Go., involving a title to lands in Samoa and £2OO damages for wrongful occupation, was concluded an hour before the Arawata sailed for Suva. The c»se was heard before Chief Justice Clark. Oarrick, late AttorneyGeneral of Fiji, appeared for the defendants, and Napier and Winter for plaintiff.
