Dungan, Esq., in the chair. Messrs Mulvihill, Hanna, Janion, Gilbert, and Rudkin were present. The Secretary reported the receipt of £2 17s, collected by Messrs Mulvihill and Dungan, in Main street, and Mr Isbester 7s 6d, and that the amount in hand was £7 18s 6d, but none of the subscription lists sent out had yet been returned from the various parts of the district. It was resolved that the Secretary send a circular to the collectors, asking them to send in their lists by the 9th September, and that the meeting be adjourned for one month. The adjourned ordinary meeting of the Westland County Council was appointed to be held at two o’clock this afternoon. The Minister of Mines is willing to grant a subsidy to the amount of £l5O to prospectors to prospect Big Bay ; and a West Coast Prospecting Association has been formed at Invercargill. A Mr J. Durward writes in reference to Messrs Carey and Hyndman’s report to the Minister of Mines, published by us yesterday in full, that they (Carey and Hyndman) were “numbered as mates of Captain Malcolm, and their report is not the report of the party sent out by the Red Hill Minerals Company, Limited, of which he (Mr Durward) was placed in charge.” Ho adds that—“A report will be given to the public as soon as an analysis of some specimens has been completed by Dr. Hector, and without such scientific support no report is of much value.” In reference to the vote of £2OOO for Sir William Fox, for his services on the West Coast Commission, the Argus remarks ; —“No money was "better earned. The late Government wished to recognise Sir William’s services by a similar vote, but the old veteran would not take it. He was never rich, but owing to unexpected reverses and financial misfortunes he is now very much poorer than he was, so that £2OOO would be acceptable. A cleaner-handed politician does not stand in New Zealand. He was in a position to enrich himself, but he took no advantage of it. In that respect, if in no other, he and the late Dr. Featherston were much alike.” The Dillmau Town quadrille assembly will meet at the Empire Rooms to-morrow evening, at eight o’clock. The fortune left by the late Mr Vanderbilt is generally estimated at £40,000,000. The best medicine known is Sander and Sons’ Eucalypti Extract. Test its eminent powerful effects in coughs, colds, influenza, Ac.—the relief is instantaneous. Thousands give the most gratifying testimony. His Majesty the King of Italy and medical syndicates all over the globe are its patrons. Read the official reports that accompany each bottle. We have no occasion to offer rewards in proof of the genuineness of our references. The official reports of medical clinics and universities, the official communication of the Consul-General for Italy at Melbourne ; the diploma awarded by International Exhibition, Amsterdam—all these are authentic documents, and, as such, not open to doubt. We add here epitome of one of the various cases treated at, the clinic of Schultz, M.D., Professor, etc “ C. 8., 24 years old ; congestional abscess on the thigh. Incisions made in tuo places. Although Lister’s dressing was applied, the secretion became, two days later, very copious, and had adopted a foetid, decomposed character. The tpnipciui'iuc 1030 eiiovinou.slv, Xu constquence the dressing was removed, and on its place was made during the day-time repeated irrigations with Eucalypti Extract. The offensive foeter disappeared very soon, the fever abated within a few days, and the patient recovered after the lapse of several weeks. In this instance wo must not lose sight of the fact that the latter treatment saved the patient’s life.”—[Advt.] Mr L. Seebcck being appointed agent here for a Home Jewellery Factory has now on view a very fine selection of the most modern designs of Jewellery, at low prices.—[Advt. ] Goon Resolution’s.— At the commencement of every new year hundreds and thousands of our young men—and old as well—form resolutions for their guidance f ?r the coming year.
