SCRAPS CONCERNING KIMBERLEY.
The Auckland Evening Bell's Wellington correspondent telegraphed on the 2nd inst.—"A report was spread about last week that the wives of some men who had gone to Kimberley had received large remittances. It was farther said that they had produced the evidence to the Evening Post, and that that paper had refused to publish the statement. It transpires that the whole statement is a canard, without any foundation of truth. On the other hand there is no doubt his letters were received on Saturday by a man in Wellington from Kimberley, giving a moat doleful account of the diggings, if indeed, they can be called such." Letters received from Mr H. Stockdale, explorer, narrate a sad tragedy in the new pastures of Kimberley country. Mr Stockdale, on his last visit, left a camp in charge of Mr C. Bailey, medical student, Mr M'Maugh, of the wellknown Bathurst family of that name, and Mr A. Hutchison, a lad of 15, sod of Mr Frank Hutchison, of Sydney. Returning, he found the lad alone, in charge of the horses, both of hia companions having died of dysentery and fever.
