[united press ASSOCIATION.! Napier, August 10. Frederick Hill, counter clerk at the Post Office, was arrested yesterday afternoon charged wiuh the larceny of posted letters containing money. His lodgings were searched, and a number of letters found. Suspicion being aroused from the number of letters disappearing, a test letter containing half a sovereign was posted and found in his possession. The prisoner was brought before the R.M. to-day, and remanded to the 18th inst. Accused is son of Frank Hill, the well-known totalisator proprietor and horse owner. Dunedin, August 11. An elderly man named John Duckett was committed for trial at Port Chalmers for criminally assaulting his stepdaughter, between ten and twelve years of age.
